Tipping and service-charge law in Massachusetts
Massachusetts law requires that any fee called a "service charge," or any fee a patron would reasonably expect to be given to wait staff, be remitted in full to wait staff, service employees, or service bartenders. An "administrative fee" is allowed only with a clear written notice that it is not a tip.
